Summary

The Telegraph

«Diana Gabaldon muestra magníficamente cómo los grandes acontecimientos no son historia para quienes los viven, sino simplemente la vida cotidiana。 [。。。] Es asombroso que este extenso y pormenorizado relato de la Guerra de la Independencia, tramado y poblado con tanta sofisticación, haya sido concebido y escrito sólo en siete años。»

Really slowed the plot down。 2。) Why make Ulysses an antagonist? He was over of the more interesting characters from past books!3。) The motivation of your main antagonist at the end of the book is to end slavery in America but we're supposed to be against him Always good to be back in the Outlander world, but a number of confounding choices in this book。。。1。) The long Ian interlude in the middle。。。 I guess it was too bring Sylvia and the girls back into the story, but was that really necessary?? 50 hours of listening to a book。 It should have been no more than 10。 This book just feels like a placeholder, a filler book。 There are very few things that actually move the plot along。 Extremely descriptive sections and then sections that skip details that should have been written about。 After finally being pulled back together, the characters all go off and do their own thing that doesn’t have anything to do with the plot line。 At the same time, most of the characters are just left out of the 50 hours of listening to a book。 It should have been no more than 10。 This book just feels like a placeholder, a filler book。 There are very few things that actually move the plot along。 Extremely descriptive sections and then sections that skip details that should have been written about。 After finally being pulled back together, the characters all go off and do their own thing that doesn’t have anything to do with the plot line。 At the same time, most of the characters are just left out of the storyline。 Fergus? Who is he? Brianna? She’s just a mom whose contributions to the ridge are only mentioned in passing from Claire’s point of view。 Which is SO sad considering she and Roger had a large role in the last book where I finally got to know them and like them。 A couple of things happen in the beginning and the end of the book that are important, and that’s it。 I’m almost ashamed that this is the first DG book I have a sign copy of。 。。。more

Late to the party but caught up with it eventually, the story lingers and hangs up and crawls and I'll still give it 4 stars。 Just coz I'll read any story involving the family。Turns out The Frasers will adopt everyone, bring in everyone in need of help to their home, neighan。 Dinna fash Sassenach! Another hefty read but when you care about the characters length doesn’t matter。 There are many threads being woven n this book。 Many of them will continue into the next volume。 There is a nice tease at the end that will give the next book a fine starting point。 There are some points in the book where the reader could become confused as to who is speaking and to whom they are speaking。 It does not detract from the story。I was surprised to discover that Diana is just a year younger than myself。 H Another hefty read but when you care about the characters length doesn’t matter。 There are many threads being woven n this book。 Many of them will continue into the next volume。 There is a nice tease at the end that will give the next book a fine starting point。 There are some points in the book where the reader could become confused as to who is speaking and to whom they are speaking。 It does not detract from the story。I was surprised to discover that Diana is just a year younger than myself。 Hopefully she will remain in good health and maybe write a little more quickly。 3-5 years between volumes could mean that any volume written from here forward could be her last。 As many writers of extended series seem to do I am sure she knows how she would like the series to end。 I hope she has entrusted that information to her literary heirs。 。。。more

Diana has done it again。 It’s a great continuation of the Outlander story。 Another friend to add to my collection and like all Outlander fans I can hardly wait for the next book。

I'm a relatively new Outlander fan, so I've only been waiting for a year or so for this book, so I can't imagine those who waited for 7 years!! I've noticed a lot of negative reviews about this book and did it jump from character to character? Yes。 Was it a lot of story building and not as much action? Also yes。 Did I still love every single second with these characters, unequivocally yes! Oh Diana, I love you so much but you're starting to lose me。 No one could ever accuse a book in the Outlander series of being tightly plotted but this was taking it to some serious extremes。 Where the hell was the editor? I should have refreshed on where the previous book left off and who all the characters are。 It took a while to get into the story。

I want to start off by saying I have been a huge fan of the Outlander series, and will continue to read them。 This was probably my least favorite。 I really struggled with remembering what happened in past books and all the random characters that Jamie and Claire have met on the way。 There were many references to events and people that happened in the other books so I felt like I didn’t understand what was going on a lot of the time。 There also wasn’t much action until the last 100 pages- and we I want to start off by saying I have been a huge fan of the Outlander series, and will continue to read them。 This was probably my least favorite。 I really struggled with remembering what happened in past books and all the random characters that Jamie and Claire have met on the way。 There were many references to events and people that happened in the other books so I felt like I didn’t understand what was going on a lot of the time。 There also wasn’t much action until the last 100 pages- and we are talking about a 900 page book。 Still, it was interesting to have a glimpse of what everyday life might have been like during the American revolution。 And the last line of course will make me pick up book 10…。 。。。more

Does anyone have an answer to this question? I have enjoyed this series up until these last two editions。 It seems like once we got the American Revolution, the books have kind of stalled。 I think that the series should have ended a while ago。 I felt like nothing happened。 If this is supposed to be the lead-up to the last book, then I don’t get it。 There was nothing added nor was nothing solved。 We just followed a huge cast of characters around throughout their daily lives。 Sure, we do go on adventures, but I felt like these adventures did not add anything。 The little side journeys used to add so much to the plot, as they would come back in later books to play an important role。 However, since we are into the ninth book in the series, I can’t help but wonder what the point is。 Now, these little side quests could play an important role later on。 I guess if that does happen, I will have to change my review。 There is a heavy need for an editor。 I’ve said this before, even about the books that I love。 We all know that Diana Gabaldon loves her details and gives us a deep insight into her characters。 However, I think we have reached that point where enough is enough。 We don’t need to know every single day about every day。 It slows the plot down and makes us distance ourselves from the characters。 I get that Diana loves her characters and I do too。 However, the fact that we get so much has made me turn away from these books。 Everyone and everything is trying to get their/its time in the spotlight and it just doesn’t work that way。 It doesn’t work。 You can have heavy details, but you have to have something there to keep the reader engaged。 Sadly, it is not here。 I also thought that both the plot and the characters lost when we started getting more and more points of view。 I thought that the books were much stronger when they were told from Claire’s point of view。 Still to this day, I believe that Claire’s point of view is the strongest。 While I understand that we would not get to see much just from Claire’s point of view, I cannot help but wonder if this book would have been stronger had we just stuck with her。 Throughout the book, we have hints of the war reaching Fraser’s Ridge and we see those there trying to prepare for it。 However, by venturing away from Fraser’s Ridge to the other characters, we actually lose this sense of urgency and danger。 We get a sense that everything is going to work out from the other points of view。 This made me stop caring about the events on Fraser’s Ridge。 Had we just had Claire’s point of view, then maybe this would have been a stronger arc。 What I’m getting at is that adding more has hurt the characters。 We have lost that sense of danger。 It’s almost like we know that everything is going to be okay。 Still, I’ve even developed a little bit of a dislike for Claire and Jamie-even though I got just through saying that the book would have been stronger through Claire’s point of view。 I used to love this couple and follow them through their lives。 Now, I don’t know。 It’s almost like they’ve become Mary Sues。 Everything comes easy for them and they don’t struggle。 I get that they are supposed to be important people and all, but now it almost feels like they are untouchable。 It’s almost like they can do no wrong。 The human element is gone。 I liked it whenever we got to see them make mistakes, suffer, and have emotions。 Now, it just feels like they are robots。 I don’t know if I will pick up the next book or not when it comes out。 Part of me wants to-if it is indeed the final book。 However, with the disappointments of the last two books, part of me just wants to put Outlander down。 。。。more

Nooooooo! After over 10,000 pages of Outlander books, I am through them all。 I tried to drag this one out as much as possible because I know it will be years until the next book comes out。 This is easily my favorite series of all time。 I love the accuracy of the medical references。 The action, the history, the sex!! All of it。 I love all of it。

Listen, I love Jamie and Claire, but this book was LONG and I can’t figure out why。 I resorted to listening to it as well as reading it because I just wanted to finish it。 Nothing earth-shattering happened, but DG did give us some great, everyday life storylines that did (sort of) move the main plot lines forward (but just a bit)。 If you’re invested in these characters, read this new installment。 If you’re over it, well…you won’t miss much if you stay that way。

I have waited for this book for seven years now。 I enjoyed it for the most part but I think the last 100 pages could’ve been spread out a little。 It was lovely to just spend time with the characters。 I like the fact that the book wasn’t overly action packed like some of the previous ones but I think this book could have been shorter。 Most of her books were books I couldn’t put down and look forward to reading again at some point but this book did not hold my interest and it took me 5 months to g I have waited for this book for seven years now。 I enjoyed it for the most part but I think the last 100 pages could’ve been spread out a little。 It was lovely to just spend time with the characters。 I like the fact that the book wasn’t overly action packed like some of the previous ones but I think this book could have been shorter。 Most of her books were books I couldn’t put down and look forward to reading again at some point but this book did not hold my interest and it took me 5 months to get through。 I made the mistake of getting the hardback。 It’s just too heavy and the print too small。 I should have gotten the kindle。 。。。more

I’ve been following Claire’s journey from the beginning and while at times it seems silly or tedious, I love the characters and (most of) the story lines。 This book, at 888 pages, was a great escape from real life in 2022。

I enjoy this but quite a bit。 It’s hard for me to say if it was a five star book or not。 Since it’s the ninth book in the series, I’m already in love with all the characters and the writing and the stories。 If you’ve read the others in the series, you definitely need to read this one。 The series as a whole is definitely five stars。

I love the characters and I love listening to Davina Porter but this took me 5 months to read cause nothing much really happens and I kept letting it come due with finishing it。 Even quite emotional segments didn't have an emotional punch anymore for me。 I love the characters and I love listening to Davina Porter but this took me 5 months to read cause nothing much really happens and I kept letting it come due with finishing it。 Even quite emotional segments didn't have an emotional punch anymore for me。 。。。more

Finally finished! I'm beginning to be tired of this series。 Does Diana Gabldon just like writing so much that she feels the need to add a thousand details that aren't really necessary?
